Primus’ process is an evolutionary improvement to an existing process rather than a revolutionary development. Because scaling up is a straightforward engineering task based on proven processes that poses no technological barriers, the company’s ability to attract construction capital for a commercial plant is enhanced.
Primus’ first plant will use natural gas as a feedstock. The first plant and all subsequent plants will be located in close proximity to sources of feedstock, as well to offtakers — i.e. an airport in the case of jet fuel. Â Subsequent plants may use biomass or municipal solid waste (MSW) as their feedstock sources.
The United States now has, at current consumption rates, at least 75 years’ worth of recoverable natural gas. More important, the United States has become the world’s low-cost producer of natural gas … The rise of shale oil is shaping up to be the biggest shift in energy in generations.
